Make Your Site a Spatial Place with OpenLayers

Abstract

OpenLayers is an open source JavaScript library built over Prototype and Rico for adding dynamic maps to your web pages. This quickie will present an introduction to the OpenLayers library and the Open Geospatial Consortium standards it supports, such as the Web Mapping Service. You will see examples that gather and combine map data from a variety of freely available sources, and examples that retrieve and display feature information.

Gray Herter is a senior software engineer at FGM, in Virginia. Gray has developed many mapping applications, including architecting a landmine removal system, and programming a tram and bus management system. Gray is also active in the Northern Virginia Java User Group where he serves as an officer, and has presented on many topics such as Ant, Java I18N, JDO, and AJAX.
