Abstract

This university session will present a very pragmatic and simple approach to Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), demonstrating how it is possible today to build a composite application using existing standards and tools. We will alternate presentations and demonstrations on service creation/discovery, assembly, orchestration, security as well as test.

  • briefly review the basic concepts of SOA.
  • decompose a business problem into a set of services

  • wire and virtualize web services as well as legacy assets using an Enterprise-Service Bus (ESB)
  • orchestrate artifacts into an executable business process using Business Process Execution Language (BPEL)
  • review security strategies
  • explore a layered testing approach for SOA using tools such as JMeter, Hermes JMS and JUnit.
