Jini: A Java SOA that rocks!

Jini technology is a service oriented architecture that exploits and extends java technology. It defines a programming model to enable the construction of secure, distributed systems consisting of federations of services and clients. Jini technology can be used to build adaptive network systems that are scalable, evolvable and flexible as typically required in dynamic computing environments.

Jini has been around since 1999. Recognised as ahead of its time, there is renewed interest as programmers recognise the strengths of its design and implementation for building advanced service-oriented systems.

This talk introduces the basic concetps of Jini and discusses how it is intended to address the "eight fallacies" of networking and how its design model makes it independent of specific network protocols. This is followed by examples of how to build working Jini services and clients, and discussion of advanced topics such as event handling, security, integration with web services, transaction management and user interfaces.

We also look at JavaSpaces. Built on top of Jini, JavaSpaces is based on the Linda tuple-programming model, ideal for certain types of distributed applications.
