Abstract 'Workflow, BPM or Orchestration'

To get started, I'll explain the goals and techniques of BPM and orchestration solutions. Some extra context is added to position these in simplified java development, web services, SOA, ESB, BPEL. Then i want to get some interaction and start a discussion about these technologies.

  • Did you ever build a home-grown workflow solution in a project ?
  • What were the motivations to do that ?
  • Did people already use a BPM solution ?
  • What were their experiences ?
  • Which features are appreciated and which are missing in todays solutions ?
