The JavaPolis Steering Committee is the driving force behind the JavaPolis organisation and gathers 5 times per year during the pre-JavaPolis period. Their main role is to decide on the annual topics and content of the different tracks. Each member of the JavaPolis steering committee is in charge for one track and coordinates the different presentations/speakers in that track.

Steering Members:

Stephan Janssen
Stephan is founder and chairman of the Belgian Java User Group since 1996. He has been using Java since its early releases in 1995 with experience of developing and implementing real world Java solutions in the finance and manufacturing industries.

He's also founder and managing director of JCS Int. a Sun authorized Java Center with an exclusive focus on J2ME, J2SE and J2EE since 1997. JCS is also the very first Belgian Java company to speak at JavaOne 2003!!
Stephan was recently selected by BEA Systems as the first European (independant) BEA Technical Director. He was also recognized by the Server Side as one of the 54 Who is Who in Enterprise Java 2004.

Stephan has already spoken at numerous Java and JUG conferences including Java '98 (UK), JAOO '99 (Denmark), JavaDays 2000 (Norway), TMAB (Belgium), JavaPolis 2002, JavaOne 2003.

Sven Beauprez
Sven is a Java advocate since he first heard about the language at university and ever since then, his believes only grew stronger as Java and surrounding technologies such as XML evolved. After gaining a few years experience as Java developer and architect at The E-corporation, he cofounded Xume, a Java and open source consultancy company.

He joined BeJUG because he wants to pass on his insights, but also because he wants to broaden his own horizon.

Dieter Deramoudt
Dieter has been involved in Software Development for 8 years in C++ and Smalltalk, Java since early 1996.

As Java Ambassador and Solutions Architect at Sun Microsystems until September 2002 he was responsible for evangelising and developing Java in the BeLux marketplace. Dieter has spoken at several conferenences and seminars including Java Dagene ( Norway ), IT Works, Java Day ( Brussels ) and several BeJUG events.

Since then he joined BEA systems as Principal Systems Engineer for BEA Systems in the Benelux.

Bart Strubbe
Bart is a civil engineer with 10+ years expertise in enterprise application development. He specializes in pragmatically integrating established design patterns and architectures into successful solutions.

Robin Mulkers
Robin has joined the IT community in 1992 when he suddenly realized that software development was more interesting than windsurfing. He had then the opportunity to apply distributed computing techniques in energy, finance and telecommunication industries.

IT Architect since 1999, founder of the Belgian Websphere User Group, he practices Java professionally from the early days of J2EE. Involved in large J2EE projects as technical expert in middleware, application integration and portals, he is now Head Application Architect for CM a leading Belgian healthcare company.

Jo Wyns
Jo explored Java in 1996 during his PhD research on multi-agent systems. Later as an IT-consultant, he developed and implemented Java-based solutions in the manufacturing industry.

In 2001 he joined Compu-Mark as manager of the architecture & support team. He is lead architect in the companies J2EE projects, and his team supports the ongoing projects with architecture, tools, and guidelines.

Recognising the impact of management skills next to IT skills, he certified as Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.

Jo experienced J2EE as a mature tool helping his company strengthen its business proposition in an increasingly demanding B2B environment.

Frederik Santens
In 1999 Frederik graduated as financial commercial engineer but soon he became addicted to Java. He turned his hobby into his profession and participated as developer and technical analyst in the realization of J2EE collaboration platforms for Car Life Cycle Management and Electronic Invoicing.

In 2002 he joined the software development department of Fit IT N.V., as J2EE software engineer. As consultant, he is now involved in large J2EE projects in the social sector.

As an advocate of Aspect Oriented Programming, Frederik believes that the adoption of the AOP paradigm in the J2EE platform, will lead to easier and more maintainable solutions.

Dirk Dussart
I work as application architect for the Belgian Post. In this position I am confronted with application security decisions.

Prior to joining the Belgian Post, I worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers Risk Management Solutions, where I was the subject matter expert on Application Security. Over the years I have gained a lot of experience with auditing web application, especially J2EE Applications.

In my spare time I like playing with WiFi and mobile technology at home - and yes my access point uses WEP I am very interested in new wireless streaming technology.
