Abstract "NetBeans in Action"
Join us for NetBeans Software Day. Learn from the experts what's happening with the NetBeans IDE and other Sun tools. Advances in tools technology will have a dramatic impact on developers building solutions with Java J2SE, J2EE and J2ME technology. These new technologies will offer increases in developer productivity, as well as application quality and performance.
Other highlights include keynote by Sun Fellow Graham Hamilton, Fellow and Vice President of Sun Microsystems.
The first 200 attendees will receive a FREE copy of the the NetBeans Field Guide, a limited edition Javapolis T-shirt and will be eligible to win an iPod Nano.

Agenda
9:30-10:00 What makes NetBeans the Best?
Speaker : Graham Hamilton
Is NetBeans a platform or an IDE? NetBeans is both. It's a platform for developing rich client applications and it's an award-winning Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
This session provides demonstrations and discussion about some of the most innovative new features in the IDE including:
- Integrated low-overhead profiling support
- Code-aware developer collaboration
- The highly-anticipated Project Matisse.
10:00-11:00 What makes NetBeans the best IDE for J2EE development?
Speaker: Ludovic Champenois
NetBeans provides a trouble-free out-of-box experience for J2EE developers. There's no need to search for plug-ins; the NetBeans IDE provides you with the tools you need to start being productive right away. This session will focus on showing these tools in action:
- Wizards for creating J2EE components (EJBs, servlets, etc.) and the necessary deployment descriptor entries.
- Full control of web/application servers from within the IDE
- Editing and refactoring support for deployment descriptors.
- Debugging features: debug application deployed in your container, JSPs debugging, HTTP traffic monitor, etc.
A sneak preview of NetBeans support for Java EE 5 will also be demonstrated!
11:00-11:15 Break
11:15-12:30 What makes NetBeans the best IDE for J2ME development?
Speaker : Brian Leonard
J2ME development requires a specific set of tools. The NetBeans IDE provides a first class set of tools for developing mobile Java applications. This session is an introduction to J2ME development and demonstrates the features of the NetBeans Mobility Pack.
- Visual Mobile Designer
- BlueTooth On Device Debugging
- Mobile Client to Web Application Connection Generator
- Improved emulator support
- Improved preprocessor support for device fragmentation - Develop code for any number of devices with a single code base.
A special demo showcasing NetBean's end-to-end application development support - J2EE to J2SE to J2ME - will be shown.
12:30-1:30 Lunch
1:30-2:30 NetBeans Plug-in Development and Rich Client Platform
Speaker : Tim Boudreau
NetBeans 5.0 offers comprehensive support for building IDE plug-in modules and rich client applications on the NetBeans platform. A lot of support for extending the IDE and creating applications on top of the NetBeans Platform is provided. Using brand new templates in the New Project wizard and New File wizard, you can generate all the basic files and code you need. The Project Properties dialog box lets you configure API dependencies, MANIFEST.MF entries, and other project metadata. Code completion and other standard support provided by the Source Editor is available for plug-in modules too.
2:30-2:45 Break
2:45-4:30 Creator in Action
Sun Java Studio Creator, Sun Microsystem's FREE and AWARD WINNING tool, is an easy-to-use visual integrated development environment (IDE) for rapid web development on the Java platform. Using this IDE, developers can build applications visually, with minimal code creation, using its drag-and-drop components (EJBs and web services, too), automatic page navigation, and other convenient features.
This session, led by Tor Norbye, will focus on the extensive productivity functionality that Java Studio Creator provides, including:
- Using AJAX aware components
- Leveraging Java Studio Creator's JavaSever Faces component library
- Using simple drag-and-drop data binding procedures, and many more.
Special!!
The first 200 attendees will receive a FREE copy of the the NetBeans Field Guide, a limited edition Javapolis T-shirt and will be eligible to win an iPod Nano.
