JavaPolis: More About ME
JavaPolis: More About ME 13 • 12 • 07 @ 11 • 51 • Danny Thursday’s JavaPolis keynote starts with Bruce Eckel doing basically a partner slot — a 45 minute promotion speech for Flex (what else). What’s this doing at a Java conference? How much did Adobe pay for….. — Oh. Okay. I just saw the first demo. I want to use this! Show me more! And it works in everything with a Flash player on it? Where can I sign up? Stephan Janssen’s keynote on his side project, parleys.com, (no seriously, there’s som
Closures And The Ars Rhetorica
Closures And The Ars Rhetorica 23 • 12 • 07 @ 17 • 24 • Danny How about those annotations? Haven’t they made the once simpel and elegant Java language into a unintelligible mixed-up mess of code and metadata? These are just two outcries of despair about annotations that I found on the Internet, both written by able and experienced Java developers: “We have been seeing this for awhile via XDoclet, and the .NET community is definitely seeing it. I dunno, maybe it is just me, but it scares me. W
JavaPolis Going Nuclear
JavaPolis Going Nuclear 11 • 12 • 07 @ 15 • 51 • Danny Just when I was about to drive off to Antwerp for this year’s JavaPolis, I learned that a fire has started in Antwerp’s nuclear plant ‘Doel’. Apparently the fire is located in a side building and there’s no immediate danger to the public. Which is exactly what I would say to prevent complete chaos from breaking out… Posted in Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argumented is expected to be a valid c
“Please Neal,” Pleads Gosling
“Please Neal,” Pleads Gosling 12 • 12 • 07 @ 16 • 57 • Danny Bob Lee’s session on Guice got mixed reviews. Having already seen his introduction to Guice, I had an pretty good idea of what Guice is, so I enjoyed hearing about his 50 or so best practices and previews of things to come. However, I spoke with another visitor afterwards who was less impressed; he had expected more of an introductory session. Right now I’m in a GWT session where one of the speakers has been delayed and time is bein
The future of Computing - Javapolis Panel. James Gosling, J.Bloch, Neal Gafter, Martin Odersky
Gosling Q&A Video from JavaPolis 2007 - Has Lots to Say about JavaFX
Gosling Q&A Video from JavaPolis 2007 - Has Lots to Say about JavaFX Submitted by Jim Weaver on Sat, 2008/02/16 - 1:55am. James Gosling had a lot to say about JavaFX Script and JavaFX Moble at JavaPolis 2007. The video of the Q&A session with James Gosling has just been posted in which he addresses audience questions, a few of which relate to JavaFX. Login or register to post comments
Javapolis 2007 - RoundUp
SAML 2.0 Javapolis Video Online at Parleys.com
I just noticed that the video for my Javapolis '07 presentation on SAML 2.0 has gone online at Parleys.com, the BeJUG e-learning site. Watch and enjoy, and count the number of times I say "um..." UPDATE 1 (Feb 11 2008) - the link to the video at Parleys appears to be down. I've emailed the Parleys people. UPDATE 2 (Feb 11 2008) - Stephan says that, somehow, the staging area became visible. Bookmark that link, though - it should be live tomorrow (Feb 12 2008). UPDATE 3 (Feb 12 200

Framework trends and job opportunities
Framework trends and job opportunities February 6th, 2008 The graphs of frameworks (JSF, Ruby rails, Spring MVC, Webwork, Struts 2, Tapestry) from indeed.com shows job trends. It´s interesting to see that the Java Server Faces Framework is the framework matching the most job postings today. Take me to the graph! Take also a look at the Javapolis (2007) Whiteboard results page and the web framework usage. Struts 1.x has the same amount of voting results like JSF. Spring is nearby. But i thi
“Little language features”
Towards a mainstream Open Source OSGi application server?
Towards a mainstream Open Source OSGi application server? Geek Culture, Javapolis No Comments » That’s official: SpringSource has just acquired Covalent. Or as I explained it to one of my colleagues, “the company behind our IoC framework has bought the one behind our application server”. My first reaction was satisfaction, because it’s another step forward in the direction of corporate Open Source adoption. It’s always amazed me to see how big companies can be afraid of Open Source. And the
Being creative again
Being creative again Javapolis, Rich Internet Applications No Comments » Amongst the things that really amazed me this afternoon in Gent was Lovely Charts, an online charting application that’s currently under semi-private beta. My first impression was something like “if it’s just a Flex alternative to Gliffy, I don’t see the point”. By the way, Gliffy is developed with what was the most advanced RIA technology before Flex 2 came in, namely OpenLaszlo. Then Jérôme Cordiez proceeded with a sm
Speed of Trust
During David Anderson’s talk about building trust at XP.be (@JavaPolis), he mentioned a few books about Trust that came out the last years. The Speed trust was one of them. Long term readers know I am a big fan of FranklinCovey. I think the Covey son is ready to follow the Covey father. Well Stephen M R Covey is coming to Belgium on the 18 june. Registered. I am Yves Hanoulle, your virtual Project coach and you can reach me at blog at my training company .net Technorati Tags: Trust,Frank
Javapolis 2007: Next gen RIA site Parleys.com V2 Beta is Available
One of the coolest Flex based RIA applications showcased during the Javapolis 2007 convention was the beta of the new Parleys.com website. Parleys hosts all videos and presentations from Javapolis and other BeJUG organized events and is great source of information for Java developers to stay current. Now version 2 is available for testing at http://www.parleys.com/display/PARLEYS/Parleys.com+V2+BETA+Program Be sure to check out the online version and the desktop version (showcasing Adobe AIR
Javapolis 2007: Bamboo, continuous integration the easy way
On Javapolis 2007 Atlassian presented two new products aimed at helping agile management projects ‘work’ in the real world. First in the line is Bamboo, their continuous integration tool. Next we’ll talk about Crucible. The guy from Atlassian Bamboo began his talk by telling the audience that “Continuous integration is a process, not a tool’. That’s certainly true, you should first think about your process before starting to setup tooling. That said, there are a lot of tools with an inadequat

Stephane,

Can we get a hi resolution picture of the 2100 waving developers that's also shown on the homepage?

Thanks,

Hi, you can download the JavaPolis 2005 high-res (1.5 Mb) here, let me know if you want the original 4Mb picture.
Next time we should do a landscape picture so the other 400 JavaPolians on the both sides are also visible

Hi

Did the photographer take pictures on the Quickie sessions? I am looking for a photograph of me doing "What's New in Struts 1.2.8 and 1.3 Dev?"
