  • How do I know if my BeJUG membership is still valid?
Send an email with your username details to membership@bejug.org to verify if your membership is not yet expired.

    No.

JavaPolis FAQ

  • Why do you organize JavaPolis in Antwerp?
The MetroPolis cinema complex is a great venue to organize a more informal un-traditional conference. The screens are enormous, the sound is THX and we've great seating where everybody has a nice view of the speaker. Another important reason was the fact that the venue is only 50 km from the border with the Netherlands, allowing also the Dutch Java-addicts to visit JavaPolis.

  • Why is the JavaPolis entry fee (only) 200 Euro?
First of all this is only possible thanks to our 30+ partners (JavaPolis and BeJUG included). They cover a big part of the cost of this conference. JavaPolis wants to be the Apache amongst the Conferences; good content and low-cost! Next to that we want to have from-the-source information available for any Java developer without him/her paying over 2.000 Euro. This is why we'll also make all of the presentations available through streaming (see an example on the BeJUG wiki) once the conference is done.

  • Do I have to pay for the BOFs?
NO, you do not have to pay 200 Euro's to attend one or more BOFs. The BOFs and the exhibition hall are free but you do need to register.

  • Can I pay on-line with my credit-card?
YES you can! If you have a Visa or MasterCard you can pay on-line.
Step 5 of the registration wizard allows you to select on-line payment.

  • In which hotel should I stay during the conference?
There are two hotels close to the Metropolis:
    • NH Docklands Antwerp
      Kempisch Dok Westkaai, 84-90
      2000 Antwerp
      Tel. +32.3.2310726
      info@docklandshotel.be

    • Holiday Inn Antwerp North
      Italiëlei 2A
      2000 Antwerpen
      Belgium
      Tel. +32 3 221 49 49
      Fax +32 3 221 49 44
      hotel@express-hiantwerpen.com

A full list of hotels in Antwerpen can be found here or here. Please note that these hotels are not necessarily close to the Metropolis!

  • Can I have a free entrance pass for the JavaPolis exhibition hall?
YES, the exhibition hall is FREE but you do have to register, select "Free JavaPolis 2004 Pass for the Exhibition and BOF Sessions only" in the registration wizard step 4. However you'll not receive any food nor can you attend any session (except the BOFs).
Attending only the exhibition hall does allows you to get in contact with over 30 Java companies and probably get some cool Java merchandizing.

  • I have problems with the flash apps, what browsers do you support?
The poll flash app is designed to run on any flash-enabled browser. The following browsers are guaranteed to support the polls:
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and later (tested on 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0)
    • Netscape Navigator 4.7 and later (tested on 4.7, 6.1 and 7.1)
    • Opera 5.02 and later (tested on 5.02, 6.00, 7.11 and 7.50)
    • Mozilla 1.2.1 and later (tested on 1.2.1, 1.4, 1.7 RC2)
    • Mozilla Firefox 0.9 and later (tested on 0.9 RC)
    • There is a known issue with Mozilla 1.5 and 1.6, which is causing the polls to draw incorrectly. This bug has been already fixed, thanks to the Mozilla development team, and we have tested the version 1.7 RC2 which works fine. This bug also applies to earlier versions of Mozilla Firefox (0.8 and earlier).\\\\
The Macromedia Flash Player 6 or later is also required. Currently more than 90 per cent of all browsers are equipped with the Flash Player, and for those which are not, Flash Player is still only a ~500kB download.
To get the latest version of the free Flash Player for your platform, go here.

Ok, I have no idea how to use this wiki thing, neither I have time to figure that out, so I shall try to ask my question in a comment.

I want to attend JavaPolis, but I need to get a visa in order to enter Belgium, and in order to get a visa I need a formal Letter of Invitation from the Organizer of the Event. It must be printed on the official letterhead, signed, and mailed to me (fax won't work). Can you do that? Whom do I contact with such requests?

Posted by Dmitry Leskov at Oct 19, 2004 07:51 | Permalink

Hi Dmitry,

You can send me an e-mail with your contact details. I will then make sure you get such an invitation letter sent by regular post. My address is niky.patyn@navajo.be (I'm doing the practical follow-up for these things)

Kind regards,
N.

Do you plan to get a video of the conferences or something?

It would be great if you could cause it would be hard to be in two sessions at the same time and will be very useful to get it online or on dvd support, at least for the attendees. :-P

Thanks.

We'll record all presentations and make them available (like we've done for the AOP Workshop for our JavaPolis wiki users.

Hi,

I am from ROMANIA and when I want to submit the registration form with invoice/personal address seems that ROMANIA isn't in the combobox. How I can register in this case?

Thanx.

As Bodgan knows, we've resolved this problem some weeks ago.

You do not define clearly what the 200 euros include. It seems to include access to the University Days, the Conference and the Business day. What else? Among others : does it include lunch ?

Posted by Vincent Delepaut at Dec 01, 2004 15:13 | Permalink

200 Euro covers the JavaPolis University, Conference and Business Day.
+ JavaPolis Movie
+ JavaPolis Party
+ Lunch (for the days that you select you'll be present, see registration wizard)
+ 1 year BeJUG membership
+ JavaPolis welcome bag + t-shirt

Anything else you want for 200 Euro ?!

Posted by Stephan Janssen at Dec 01, 2004 17:22 | Permalink

That's simply fantastic ! Many thanks to the BeJUG and their partners for this.

The FAQ is missing one important question :
How do I know my registration was successful ? Will I receive a confirmation email ?

Posted by Jean-Pol Landrain at Dec 01, 2004 15:54 | Permalink

You will receive a registration confirmation email once you've finished the registration wizard.

The people who pay with a credit-card do not get a confirmation email because the actual payment is taken as a registration confirmation.

If you did not receive an email (maybe email address was wrongly entered), you can always contact info@bejug.org.

Hope this helps ?
Stephan

Posted by Stephan Janssen at Dec 01, 2004 17:25 | Permalink

Yes. It helps. But I need another clarification. When you say "people who pay with a credit-card do not get a confirmation email", do you mean they are supposed to get another mail from the payment system or do they just arrive to the web page with the confirmation of payment (then, it is advisable to print it, just in case) ?

Posted by Jean-Pol Landrain at Dec 01, 2004 20:44 | Permalink

Correct, you can print the last page which is an invoice type of page.

I registered myself at the javapolis wiki. The online registration is finished. Is it still possible to join the javapolis 2004 next week?

Posted by Peter Verschueren at Dec 10, 2004 04:46 | Permalink

Yes of course, you can register and pay on-site.
Make sure you are there a few hours in advance

Posted by Stephan Janssen at Dec 10, 2004 04:53 | Permalink

A few hours ?? Expecting that many people ?
Can I pay by credit card ?

Posted by Peter Verschueren at Dec 10, 2004 04:55 | Permalink

You can pay with a credit-card.
We've almost 1.350 people from 35 different countries,
which is a lot of (great) Java-minds in one place

I received just a few days ago a "Personal Invitation from IBM" (yes, I'm a lucky bastard ). But it is now too late to register online or return the form to my host. Can I just bring it along and use it for the registration?

Posted by Jos Potargent at Dec 10, 2004 09:03 | Permalink

Yep, that's the idea... you lucky bastard
